Writing Letters to Our American Pen Pals in 6th Grade

WRITING LETTERS TO OUR NEW PEN PALS IN SIXTH GRADE

This past week our students wrote their first letter to their new pen pals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. One our language assistants from the past year moved back to her hometown of Philadelphia to teach. She is working as a Spanish teacher at Freire Charter School. Her eigth grade Spanish classes have partnered with our sixth grade English classes to partcipate in a long-term bilingual and bicultural letter exchange project. In their first letter our students told their new pen pals about themselves, what classes they like, their hobbies, families and what it is like to live in Spain. The letters are on their way to Philadelphia and our students eagerly await a response. We hope to hear back from the eigth graders a Freire soon!
